About River of No Return

It’s not widely known, but the Pacific Northwest has an incredible BBQ heritage.

In the heritage of the indigenous peoples of the Columbia River Gorge and surrounding area, PNW BBQ carries notes of aromatic vanilla and citrus from Western Red Cedar and alder, and centers mainly around the gorgeous native Chinook, Coho, Steelhead, and Sockeye salmon.

River of No Return’s delicate smoky, sweet, citrus profile gives depth and flavor to delicate proteins such as fish, seafood, chicken, and pork. It’s great on all kinds of things from pasta salad to avocado toast to popcorn. It’s sure to become a family favorite.

River celebrates the best of the PNW with Salish alderwood-smoked salt and sumac (an herb that grows wild in the mountains and tastes like citrus.) We add in a touch of brown sugar for sweetness, marjoram for freshness, chili and garlic for a teeny kick, and black pepper for warmth and depth.

The story behind the name: River of No Return

We originally developed this blend in our home kitchen as a salmon rub, and named it after the great Salmon River in our native Idaho (The mighty Salmon was coined as the River of No Return by early settlers due to its numerous rapids.)

And then we discovered how delicious our River of No Return blend was on avocado toast, popcorn, roasted veggies, chicken, and pork... and pretty much anything, really! River of No Return is one of our personal faves, and we know you’ll love it too!
